OTTs get closer to Customers

Bottom line of this FT  article -  How Silicon Valley discovered the rest of America ‘The political situation has made Silicon Valley truly interested in the real lives of its users’ . https://www.ft.com/content/2a2962aa-5b88-11e7-b553-e2df1b0c3220?mhq5j=e1

Is that key executives of some OTTs are trying to get closer to the people and understand better their needs, for example what has been in the impact of globalization, mobile technology in their lives and other insights; and believe is actually a good point, for those (like me) who have had the opportunity to travel extensively we should get closer and understand people “ in the street”,  as I remember my last business trip back from Guatemala, some years ago, at the airport there a was an older person also queuing who seemed bored and started an interesting conversation that seemed like a live ‘network society’ advert; after he asked and I explained that worked in ‘cellular networks’ (just to avoid getting into more complex explanations), this person explained, “oh! Yes! We actually need to give a big thanks to guys like you, now we get cellular connections from the farms in rural areas in Guatemala, we can get instant prices for our products (i.e. USD per kg of tomatoes) from different places in USA, start deals by sending pictures and close deals over the phone almost on real time, this is a great achievement!!  However, he went on, saying that they would like their potential customer to get closer to their real products, have the sense of weighting products, feel the texture, he asked me if the mobile phone could convert somehow the physical characteristics of the product in the other end to become tangible. I Remember this conversation like a nice anecdote and in the end as the article I mentioned in the beginning, I conclude how far we are really are of the real needs end subscriber have!!, we still live in a “one-way supply chain World” (even those star, best of the universe OTTs)  where people are developing APPs and systems very far away from the real needs for different segments of people, if at least they could get closer to people for each profession, range of age, and per geographical region, and fulfill their specific (connectivity-related way of living) needs, concerns, requirements,  probably the daily life of those segment of people would be improved and that gap (social, economic, technological) that exist now days would be stopped and be reversed  why not?.
